Life Drawing - Thursday Morning

Cyndi was our wonderfully curvacious model in life drawing this morning. This was 40 miniutes on brown paper using black ebony pencil and white charcoal pencil for highlights.

About 40 minutes on newsprint. Something tells me I should invest in more expensive paper for these classes. The ripples in the paper are much more apparent in the photograph than they are when drawing.

This was the firt drawing - the warm up. About 20 minutes on newsprint. I don't have her weight distribution correctly in this and her upper hand went off the paper. Each drawing is about 18x24.

  1. These are great. I would have taken newsprint too. There's freedom in not caring about the paper that much.

    1. I absolutely agree, Linda. I had a great time drawing them and was not unhappy until I saw how poorly they photographed. I will probably buy a little higher quality newsprint for life drawing once this pad is used up! :)

Your talent is inspiring as is your work ethic!
I love these drawings. You are motivating me to get back to taking a life drawing class.
    Great art!

  4. Fabulous drawings!! I love drawing with charcoal and white pastel on toned paper - So effective isn't it? And you have the perfect model - so much more interesting and fun to draw than a skinny person. The last one made me chuckle... Is she... pole dancing?? Lol!

    1. I love the white charcoal on a medium toned paper as well. I wish I could find a dusky medium toned blue. I have a book with some old master drawings on blue paper and they are lovely.

    1. I was delighted with this model and hope we have a chance to draw her again. For some reason, I was very shaky and unsure this session. That was odd for me - but that is what happened. I may have had too much caffeine prior to class so I am happy that the drawings were not too bad :).

  6. The first one is much more than 40min sketch.

    1. Thanks, Irina. I am pretty quick at getting the basic figure down. I need to spend more of those 40 minutes working on shading!
