What can I say? More experimentation - this time with only 4 colors. I used Venetian Red, Ivory Black, Ultramarine Blue and Titanium White. It certainly has a Halloweenish feeling - I guess that is appropriate as our nights are very cool and Autumn is in the air!
ReplyDeleteGros bisous
I am so happy to see you back, MaartineAlison - and thank you for your kind comments on my experiemental piece!
DeleteFabulous portrait studies, Susan! I love the way you capture facial expressions!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you like her, Judy - portraits are so fascinating to paint. It seems the perfect avenue for the artist to project some of herself into the work.
Deletevery cool painting:))) I like it very much and always admire your loose style.
ReplyDeleteHi, Maike, I think part of the reason I do these types of portraits now and again is to stay loose and try to boldly apply the paint without concern for the outcome. Its fun and liberating.
DeleteSusan!
ReplyDeleteBravo!
This piece is exceptional.
The hand coming out from the bottom right directs the viewer back to the face over and over again.
Very creative and well done.
Nice job!
Take care.
Michael
Hi, Michael - thank you so much. I like the hand as well. In fact, its my favorite part of the painting!
DeleteSusan, dit vind ik heel speciaal , knap werk.
ReplyDeletegroetjes,
Simonne
Many thanks, Simmone - Ik ben zo blij dat je het leuk vindt.
DeleteYou've captured such an interesting expression in her eyes. She matches quite nicely with your profile picture, though you look a lot friendlier! One can learn so much from experimenting. Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteHi, Susan - I enjoy these phases of experimentation. They really are periods of freedom and lack of fearfulness. I like to try unusual color combinations, large brushes, adventurous brushwork, distinct values - and on and on. Also, the subject matter tends to be a bit broader than my more serious work! :)
DeleteAutumn is most definitely in the air here too!
ReplyDeleteYour technique is so strong here. And it's unique too :0)
Your comment means a lot to me, Sandra - I deeply appreciate it.
DeleteShe does have a very strong albeit frightening face - well done!
ReplyDeleteLOL - frightening, indeed! Thanks for stopping by, Kathryn - I LOVE your recent portrait!
