We happened upon a free outdoor concert last Saturday and I had my camera with me. This is actually a composition using 4 different photos. I got way more fussy and detailed than I wanted to. There are some things that I like but, overall, I am disappointed in this result. :(
16x20 oil on canvas
It does have the right feeling though of an outdoor concert with lots happening and music blaring. I can hear it just looking at this. Your work just keeps amazing me.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda - I have gotten away from figures for a while and need to get back in that groove. I love painting people almost as much as I love painting horses.
DeleteIt's a fun painting. Perhaps the disappointment is in the busy composition and not a clear focal point. But the fact that it has my eye moving around gives the illusion of the band in motion. A negative gone positive?
ReplyDeleteI love how you're so adventurous to try such complicated things that are out of your comfort zone. 5 figures at once? You go girl!
Hi, Susan - my angst about this picture is mostly that it never 'felt right' while I struggled through it. and therein lies the issue - I see so much of the struggle when I look at it. I could not bring the concept I had in my mind to fruition on the canvas. I admit to letting it get me down for a day or two and then realized - there is no lack of canvas, paint or ideas to try again. So its onward and, hopefully, upward!
DeleteYou're bound to feel disappointed if it's not what you visualised ... but it's all there waiting to be built upon, so much potential for a great dynamic production that is so often your stock-in-trade
ReplyDeleteIt happens a lot, John - I get so excited by a concept in my mind and then don't even come close to pulling it off. Once in a while everything comes to gether - but not this time.
DeleteSusan!
ReplyDeleteYou are a rocking and very talented artist!
This work is funky, exciting, colorful, fun and so much more.
Bravo,
Michael
Many, mnay thanks for your excitement and support, Michael. It was a big challenge and I learned a lot while doing it - so its all worthwhile.
DeleteHmmmm ... It's good, but somehow it isn't you.
ReplyDeleteI know I painted it - but wish I had'nt - LOL!!!
DeleteI HEAR the music, Susan!! I really like it...
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet, Hilda - thank you so much. I can always use a bit of encouragement when I fall so short of my goals. I appreciate your support.
DeleteWhat a fun and challenging subject! What I like the most is the Metallic gold trim of the drum kit! And the man on the right singing looks like he's having such a great time! I like it :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks for ponting out the things that did work - Thank you, Sandra!
DeleteIt´s a good one and it is right to try something new.
ReplyDeleteI think its good to try new and harder things too, Maike. I love seeing your work as you do so many subjects well and in several different mediums. You always inspire me.
