A Bevy of Bunnies

Having some fun with quick studies of bunnies in motion today. I bought some lovely new linen curtain panels from Pottery Barn and they came packaged with sturdy white cardboard inserts. Those pristine pieces of white cardboard just called to me and there was no way I could NOT paint on them! Each bunny is 9 x 11 and gave me about 10 minutes of furiously painted fun! Oh - and the curtains look wonderful!

  1. Susan, these are BRILLIANT!!! You have got such movement and character in each one!!! Is there ANY surface on which you won't paint? :)

    1. You make me smile, Kathryn! Thank you! I am always trying new surfaces and love the absorbancy of brown paper and of cardboard :)! I also find it loosens me up and frees me to paint more boldly when I haven't spent a fortune on the canvas!

    1. Many thanks, Rick. These quick sketches are an attempt to loosen up as I feel my work has been too tight lately.

  3. The fun of painting them is all around, I am smiling like crazy looking at these works. How you do it??
And from imagination? Impossible for me.

    1. Nothing is impossible, Irina! I find when I am painting on a surface I don't care about, I am able to be more bold - and that is invaluable for quick oil sketches. I am hoping I can carry that boldness over into my other work.

    2. "Don't care" is the way to juicy painting. When I am precise, accurate and very attentive, the result is always so disasterous.

  4. they are really beautyful and so real. So I often see them moving when I am riding on horseback.

  7. I LOVE the way your stylized caricatures of animals still maintain the integrity of the beast! And of course the hues and value compositions are, as always, stunning!
