Some Figurative Work and more SNOW!

I took a few photos while hanging out in a waiting room recently and had fun doing this graphite sketch and quick oil study of the same man.

Graphite and white charcoal on newsprint /  18 x 14

Waiting Room Blues / oil on linen panel / 14 x 18

And a few photos of our wintry  landscape....

  1. Bonjour ma chère Susan,

Bravo !!

    Gros bisous 🌺

  2. Well this one REALLY works for me; so much realism but yet so painterly. Your drawing skills carry straight through to the painting.

You've really captured the macho relaxed posture whilst, antithetically, bringing out the nervous tension in this guy.
    Inspiring painting.

    1. Many thanks, John. After noticing him in the waiting room, I knew I had to try the challenge of capturing the emotion of the moment on canvas. He was a great subject. Your comment is interesting as I have always felt drawing provides the bones and structure of the painting and is equally as important as color application. In figurative work, body proportions are almost intuitive to the viewer so any error becomes immediately apparent.

  7. Love your graphite study and oil paintings, Susan! You handle those awkward angles and perceptual "distortions" so well. As for the snow, I do not even want to see photos of it!!! Ours is finally gone :) and I actually had a short ride with the Big Guy today!!!!!
