Oil on linen panel / 14 x 11 |
Done on a toned linen panel, this hound and his loping gait intrigued me. He is a Treeing Walker Coonhound - a type of dog I had never heard of until someone asked me to paint him! Such a beautiful animal!
Below is a close up crop to show the brush work in a little more detail:
This hound dog is painted beautifully Susan. Beautiful brushwork... and so painterly... love this...I've never heard of this breed... but he's a good looking dog!!
ReplyDeleteI just love large, gangly, colorful dogs and this one fits the bill. They were bred from English and American Foxhounds and are an AKC registered breed. They are great hunting dogs, I am told!
DeleteThe brushwork always intrigues me, Susan; I guess it's because I never had any formal training. A lovely painting of an intelligent looking dog of a breed I've never heard of.
ReplyDeleteHey John - surprised you have never heard of them - they were bred back in the colonial days from the English foxhound. Wonderful hunting dogs!
DeleteHi, John, I think of brushwork as the individual signature of the artist. I wish I had one of these magnificent canines as I just love all the hounds!
DeleteBeautiful painting beautiful dog Susan. All the best my friend.
ReplyDeleteVic .
Great painting and thanks for the close-up. I truly enjoy seeing the mark making you do so brilliantly. I had time to especially admire the nose. everyone does a great job on eyes, but not always the nose and yours is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI had to let our mutual friend, John, know about where the dog originated from - hope you do not mind.
I have a friend who has two of these amazing dogs. Talk about active, they made my energetic Blue Heeler look lethargic! Have a wonderful week, Susan.
I had to do some research on this particular breed! Blue Heelers (are they the same as Blue Tick Hounds) are among my favorites! Energy seems to abound in the hunting type dogs! Glad you like his nose!
DeleteI love him! Thank you for the close look at your brushwork. That part of a painting utterly fascinates me, and yours is exceptional.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice comment - many thanks, Carol! I hope you are feeling well and recovering quickly.
