Ballerina #31

Ballerina #31 / oil on linen panel / 24 x 18
Last night and into this morning, we experienced wild, torrential rain with wind was so strong that the rain hit the windows vertically as if shot from a fire hose. At times the drop were as big as marbles.  It was loud, exciting and a little bit scary as well but we needed the rain so badly. Even with this extreme delivery, it was welcome. As the winds died down and the sun peeked out, I put the final touches on Ballerina #31. I am going to dress it up in a wide silver leaf plein air frame and call it done.

  1. That sounds like it was a wild storm! I love those, as long as I don't have to be out in them too much.
Your ballerinas are hilarious!!! I hope I don't offend ... but they look like New York cabbies in drag. I laughed and laughed ...

    1. How funny! I do love hearing what others think when viewing my work and your comment is precious! I rather thought they were caricatures of themselves - but you have a more lively opinion for sure!

  2. Wow! Have you had a drought then? We have had torrential rain and strong winds since October and thankfully at last we have had four dry days in a row. hurrah! Even the sun is shining! Good job too as the ground can't take any more! It seems the weather is finally giving us all a break :0)
Your Ballerinas are absolutely gorgeous!! I just can't get enough of these gals! maybe you could do one of a ballerina riding a horse :0)

    1. Oh, yes, we have had well below average precipitation since we moved to Nevada - almost three years. We were so looking forward to lots of snow but have had only a few small storms. The mountain ski resorts have struggled and Lake Tahoe is lower than normal. Its been a disappointment but the locals tell us to be patient - that it will change.
So glad you like the ballerinas, Sandra - this pair were certainly a lot of fun to imagine and paint! Hope your lovely weather stays for a while and I look forward to seeing your new website!

  3. Ciao Susan,
queste ballerine a riposo non hanno preso l'acqua di sicuro!
Hanno un'aria piuttosto "asciutta" e secca, ma emanano comunque un fascino particolare per le loro forme, i tutù e la situazione...Molto belle!
    Ciao, ciao, Floriana

    1. Perhaps they are resting after their recent exertions and are a bit dehydrated! Thank you for your comment, Floriana!
