There was a really large and boisterous crowd at the life drawing session this morning making it a lot of fun. Our model was Chuck Shapiro, owner of a fine restaurant on the Truckee River in downtown Reno called The Wild River Grill. He was a fine model although I kept having the feeling that he would rather be just about any pace else rather than sitting still for over 3 hours. He seemed to have a ton of bundled up and barely contained energy!
Chuck looks like the perfect model, Susan. You did a fantastic job with the graphite on tan toned paper.... I love the added highlights on his hat and his face...Beautiful work...
ReplyDeleteHe was a challenge to draw for sure. He would have moments of complete repose - which is what I think I drew - in between periods of a kind of quiet inability to keep still! I don't know how else to describe it!
DeleteAmazing - I can almost feel his skull under the hat on the top one. The volume is perfect.
ReplyDeleteHe looks lost in thought. I wonder what was going through his mind?
Thanks, Julie! I tried to draw him when his face was relaxed. It was especially hard to draw his mouth as it nveer looked the same from moment to moment. But in the end, I am pleased with the likeness, especially of the one on the toned paper.
DeleteHe looks quite calm in your sketches. Your drawing is fantastic, Susan. I love the 7/8 profile - not and easy one to do. LOVE the drawing done on toned paper - superb!

The 7/8 profile was the only spot I could squeeze into in the studio - and I was there pretty early! He was a popular subject. I don't think I have ever had a frontal view since I began attending these sessions!
DeleteWhat a fatastic portrait of Chuck Susan. Full marks here. All the best.
ReplyDeleteVic,
