Man in a Yellow Suit and Various and Sundries.....

Steeplechase in progress

The light in my hotel room is providing me with a great challenge - you can see the garish color in man with a yellow suit. I admit I was experimenting with some new paint colors (rose madder in particular) but was surprised at the intensity once I moved the painting away from the fluorescent light in the bathroom. I long to return to the overhead daylight LED lighting that I have in my home studio. For the work in progress steeplechase painting, I am trying to place my easel close to the window and away from artificial light. However, its raining again and very dark and dreary outside.

If all goes well, my husband and I will pack up our things and head back to Nevada on Tuesday. He is recovering slowly but steadily from a major surgery that he had last week at Stanford Hospital (the reason for our trip) and it will be good to get him home and back to a normal routine again.

    1. The color actually seems a little better in my home studio or perhaps the paint as dulled a bit as it dried. Many thanks, Jane.

    1. The color was definitely an experiment - perhaps too much of a good thing? Thank you, Judy.

  4. So often it's hard to replicate the light we have in our own environment. It's wonderful that you brought your paint/sketching materials with you as it probably provides some relaxation. Best to you and your husband!

  9. Thats a great set up you have there, you may discover something magic with the alternative lighting. My life drawing is done in poor lighting (the easel not the model) and sometimes its quite interesting to see the work in the morning. Best wishes to you both.

    1. The color actually looks better at home than in the hotel room. I know what you mean about poor lighting on the easel when drawing for life - it can certainly be a challenge. Thanks for your best wishes.

  10. It looks great to me Susan. I like the colours! I would find it really hard to paint in those circumstances... and I'd really worry about the carpet!
