Three dog paintings in a row! Perhaps its time to get back to some figurative or equine work.
Winter has arrived very early with a blustery snow storm in the mountains last night treating us to this view from our house this morning:
Snow in the Sierras on October 3rd! |
They look wound-up and ready to go. Lovely painting and a great series. Very limited palette yet you work wonders with it.
ReplyDeleteHere (my studio looks out across the Atlantic) the weather is always beautifully dramatic. Today rain, wind and then bright sunshine.
I always wanted to live near the ocean, having grown up spending summers at the New Jersey seaside. Your portrait work with your great grand children as your subject matter is coming along wonderfully, John. Thank you for your kind words about my hound dogs!
DeleteI love these Susan! As always there is so much movement in your paintings! Amazing!! Meanwhile, Autumn has arrived here. We are enjoying crisp, cold sunshine and log fires... Mmmm... :0)
ReplyDeleteAutumn is my favorite time of year and this week the quaking aspens are all dressed in their beautiful golden colors. I think winter will be here all too fast! Glad you like my dogs, Sandra!
DeleteWhat a beautiful view you have from your home! We, too, had a chilly night. Actually, had to use a blanket in bed which we haven't done for months now.
ReplyDeleteYour work is always so original, Susan! I just love your subjects. Again, one can feel the energy and excitement of the dogs, and I like how you have textured the background with dog prints and snowmobile, sled (?)tracks that really breaks up and adds interest to that big white space. Bravo, my friend.
WE love this eer changing view and never tire of it. It changes from season to season, day to night and sometimes, minute to minute. The most fun is watching the storm systems arrive over the mountain tops! Thank you for your nice comment, Carol! You make me happy!
DeleteAmazing dog paintings Susan!!! Surprisingly you manage those whites SO beautifully!!!!! I don't imagine it to be An easy thing to do! Autumn is here in New York.....beautiful weather....however it also changes so fast that it might be Winter tomorrow!! Lol. Again, LOVE YOUR WORK,
ReplyDeleteI love working with whites and a high key palette in general. Thank you, Hilda - and enjoy this Fall weather while we can!
DeleteBeautiful dogs, Susan! What a stunning view, but I hope you have some autumn colors before winter arrives.
ReplyDeleteThe Fall colors are magnificent this year - we drove up to Lake Tahoe earlier this week just to enjoy them! Thank you, Judy!
DeleteYour figurative work is your best! I am looking at your posts backward--this one after the most recent nude. The ala prima surpasses the closer study. Your spontaneous work is superb.
ReplyDeleteI love painting the figure - and quick oil sketches do seem to have an energy that is hard to duplicate when doing more thoughtful work! Thank you, Linda.
