And a few photos from a short trip to California. In mid-July, my husband and I had just completed some business in Palo Alto (outside of San Francisco) and decided to drive to Half Moon Bay a few miles away on the coast. It was a beautiful, warm sunny day but the weather in Half Moon Bay was quite different! The wind was blustery and the temperature was so cold that sweatshirts and jackets did not keep us warm. We were not able to walk on the beach but were forced to shelter ourselves inside the Ritz Carlton Hotel and drink hot chocolate while looking out over the ocean! Summer on the northern California coastline!
I am going to make an effort to post more regularly and next time I will have some photos from the Couer d"Alene Auction of Western Art that was held here in Reno in July. Until then - many thanks for taking the time to follow my blog!
Woo Hoo! Welcome back, Susan. Great paintings of the hounds ... we're really into dogs at the moment: my daughter has a 3 month Border-Collie called Blodwynn. The Welsh simply call it a sheepdog and not a Collie.
ReplyDeleteWe live on the West Coast, facing the Atlantic, so wind is a constant here. Look forward to your next.
Thanks for your comment, John- I am into painting dogs now for some reason. I guess they give me the same challenge of trying to capture the essence of being through motion and energy as jumper horses do. I love Border Collies - they are so smart! I am still trying to get used to the wind here on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains. That windy summer day in Half Moon Bay was serene compared to what we experience here!
DeleteNice to see you back, Susan. I love the dogs, they are dancing, like all your subjects! :)
ReplyDeleteThey do seem to be having fun - thank you, Judy!
Deleteboth of your paintings are delightful! The dogs look so active I can almost hear them panting. One can see and feel the energy. You have such a wonderful talent for expression in animals. They feel like they could move at any moment.
ReplyDeleteLove your photos. We lived in Monterey for 15 years and feel like that is such a big part of our lives.
Such a nice comment, Carol - and greatly appreciated as I enjoy knowing how viewers react. I am forever trying to show life and personality in my paintings - whether of people or animals. Monterey is just so beautiful. I love the aquarium there!
DeleteHi Susan . Your hounds are fantastic. Beautiful actually. Thank you for your photos. There beautiful also. All the best Susan.
ReplyDeleteVic.
Many thanks, Vic. I love dogs of all kinds. My sister had a big black and white German short haired pointer growing up - she was such a joy!
DeleteSusan, your hounds are fantastic! I love the composition of the top painting, with the dogs and background at an angle - it adds just that bit more movement to the work.
ReplyDeleteKathryn
Thanky ou, Kathryn - I agree that the tilted hillside adds momentum to this painting!
DeleteThese dogs are painted beautifully...you have your own personal technique that I love so much!!!! I'm glad to see you blogging again...its been too long and you were missed. I visited Half Moon Bay many years ago in October and it was pretty cold but SO beautiful! Love your photos as well!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for missing my posts, Hilda. It never ceases to amaze me that we develop real relationships here on the web and I appreciate your virtual friendship and caring comments on my work.
DeleteEven from a hotel the view of the ocean is fantastic , and so are your dogs ! Just love the movement you put into your paintings .
ReplyDeleteIt was a magnificent view, Jane, and every once in a while a flock of pelicans would fly right in front of the window! And the hot chocolate was amazing - the best we ever had!
DeleteHey Susan, het was inderdaad weer even geleden....maar ik vind je werken nog steeds fantastisch; ook je kleuren die je ervoor gebruikt ! Groetjes van Simonne
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your comment, Simonne - thank you so much!
