Ballerina # 12 - Sold

Ballerina # 12 / oil on linen / 16 x 20

Her new owner told the gallery that "She will be well loved and quite the center of attention as I imagine is her wont."

The Roux and Cyr Gallery in Portland, Maine has been so wonderful in representing my work and generating ongoing interest and sales. I am thrilled and very grateful to Susan Roux for her unwavering support of my art. Many, many thanks to you, Susan!

I did have a chance recently to catch up on some portrait practice:

12x12 oil on artboard

About 9x12, oil on artboard

12x17 oil on cardboard

Maximizing my  resources!

We are under two weeks now until leaving for our incredible European trip and my heart is beginning to palpitate in anticipation!. First stop is Amsterdam where my husband and I will meet up with our daughter and son. After a few days there we all head over to Rome. There we are booked into a hotel that is right in the middle of many of the ancient attractions and with a view to the Vatican! After several days in Rome it is back to Amsterdam where I will reconnect with my oldest friend who is Scottish but lives in England now. She and her husband are traveling from England to Amsterdam by overnight ferry in order to meet up with us for dinner! I am counting the days!

  1. I know I would be too happily distracted about a trip like that to paint! I am dreaming/hoping to get to Italy, maybe in the Fall, maybe next Spring.
Congradulations on your sale!! I love what the purchaser said about her - so true!
Your portraits are fabulous - all so distinctively your style.
If I don't have another chance - have a FANTASTIC time!!!!!

    1. The trip IS extremely distracting but most of the preparations are made now. One final detail was going to the bank today to change dollars into Euros! With that done, painting will keep me focused until we fly away! I hope your Italy plans come true, Kathryn - this trip is going to be a once in a lifetime holiday for us. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that we would plan such a wonderful trip as a family - that is really what makes it so special! Thanks for your well wishes!

    1. It's been a while and I needed to brush up. The Reno Portrait Society is having a show in July and I need to shake off my portrait painting cobwebs!

  4. You are so lucky you have a distinct and recognisable style, these are all wonderful but I love your ballerina series and its great they are finding homes. I am sure you have a packed itinerary for Rome but consider the Borghese Gallery - its mindblowing and the gardens are really something too. Have a wonderful trip.

    1. Thank you so much for visiting my blog and for your generous words, Carol. I have been doing life portraits for a couple f years now and have learned so much. I am looking forward to making those memories - only 10 days now - but who's counting?! LOL!

  9. Even though your fabulous style is loose - you managed to capture the solidity and volume of the face and figure. Your understanding of color/value is incredible. I know when you see the art over in Europe and Italy you will be so far ahead in understanding what you are looking at than most people.
It is nice you paid tribute to Susan Roux. She is remarkable what she has achieved. I still laugh at my memory of trying to find her gallery in Portland, "Oregon" last year! One of my all too frequent dumber moments.
Have the trip of a lifetime if you do not post again before you go.

    1. I just love reading your comments, Julie. You certainly give my ego a boost and I am in heart felt appreciation. I hope I do have some valuable thoughts about the art we see in Europe. My children are depending on me and I hope I can make them see the work through my eyes as they are not very artistic. They are counting on me and I hope I can deliver!
I must tell you that everytime I send a piece to the Portland gallery, I think of you and your search for my work in Oregon! I have certainly had a few smiles over your story! Hope you have recovered completely from your virus!
