Ballerina #3

My favorite so far of the ballerina series. This one is 16x20 oil on linen and I am especially pleased with the choice of color for the background. It completes her and she feels as I had envisioned her. A happy painting day today!

  1. They say the third time is the charm and I like this one best too. That soft but wonderful background has great brushwork and variety in it. Just enough to let #3 shine:) The light and shadow on her is gorgeous. The brushwork that sculpts her is stunning- those arms!! Love this one!

  10. This work has struck me for several reasons.
The originality with which is tackled a theme already favored by many artists of the past (impossible not remind Degas or Lautrec).
The title "Ballerina" would lead us, in fact, to think about another physique du role, but this subject, fixed in a moment of her being grotesque and clumsy, seems to reveal her whole humanity, dreams and weaknesses.
And IMO it is a very expressive image that captures also for a full-bodied and fresh paint that returns us a vivid figure.
The colors too are beautiful and very well harmonized.
