I will begin my painting blog with this piece, inspired by an old black and white photo from the 1800's. I was interested in the integration of figures into the magnificent winter landscape, the harshness of the weather and the connection between man and beast. I had this painting accepted into the North County Society of Fine Arts 2010 Exhibit and found out on Saturday that it won a first place ribbon. I am always so thrilled to win a ribbon as I paint mostly in solitude and the occassional confirmation from a collegue does wonders for confidence.
