In a Kingdom by the Sea...

12 x 16 / oil on linen panel

12x16 / oil on linen panel

16x20 / oil on canvas panel

Some coastal Maine subject matter for a summer show!

The actual crab in my studio! Between painting sessions I thoroughly sprayed him with room deodorizer, put him in a large tightly sealed ziplock bag and stored him in my refrigerator. He was generally okay at the beginning of the painting sessions but got very odiferous under that hot light after an hour or two! It was quite an experience!

  1. Hey Susan, ze zien er allemaal akelig realistisch uit .
Het is niet mijn favoriete onderwerp, maar je hebt ze wel mooi geschilderd !

    1. They are not my favorite subjects either! Perhaps I should have painted them dancing or jumping over hurdles!

  6. Las pinturas son preciosas. Ahora bien, para la próxima te recomiendo que le hagas una foto, y te lo comas antes de que se estropee. Los cangrejos están deliciosos acompañados de una buena cerveza.
    Un cordial saludo.

    1. Yes, I agree - but he did not last long enough for me to enjoy him as a culinary delight!

    1. Hi, Linda and thank you for stopping by. It certainly was a unique experience painting these crustaceans - but now I am longing to get back to my equine subject matter, portraits, maybe some ballerinas! We shall see!

    1. Yes - the mermaid. I once did a mermaid painting when I was concentrating on my large ballerina series. She was a sight to behold! Thank you for stopping by and for your comment, Chloe.

  9. Love these, Van Gogh's crabs are one of my favourites of his, especially having seen them in person. These are every bit as appealing - I am sure they will go down a storm.

  11. I have always fancied painting a crab or a lobster myself... Thise colours are so gorgeous aren't they? And what an amazing job you have done with them!! I can only imagine the smell! I once painted a glass of red wine and by the time I had finished, it had green fur growing on the top!!

    1. The colors are gorgeous - and they were fun to paint. I painted the crab multiple times over about 10 days. He got more and more pungent with each session!
