And trying my at hand a a few tiny pieces - a wee 5x7 nches! They are quite a challenge and require smaller brushes than I generally use.

  1. Small formats are challenging. It looks like you're up to them though. These examples look like you've been working in a 5 x 7 format for years. Superb!

    1. Thanks, Linda. I had quite a few failures while learning to work with the smaller formats. Now that I am over the initial angst, I actually think they are fun. Reminder to self - buy some high quality small brushes.

  2. Bonjour ma chère Susan,

Tes ballerines m'impressionnent et me magnétisent toujours.

    Gros bisous ☼

    1. There is something that intrigues me about painting these larger ballerinas - perhaps it is the long ago childhood dream of becoming a ballerina that the grown woman secretly still harbors within her soul. Thank you , Martine Alison.

  4. It's amazing how you still inject such vigor in to your strokes in such a tiny space! Just gorgeous! :0)

    1. It was a challenge trying to wield those small brushes! I wish I could get better photographs of these smaller paintings. For some reason the photos don't seem to be turning out well. A photographer I am NOT!

  5. No. 38 is as fabulous as all the others, Susan! I like the small ones, they focus more on their facual expressions. The pinks and violets are gorgeous.

  6. Like a micro-surgeon :0)) each tiny brush stroke just right, not easy but remarkably successful. Is there a reason for the scale, or is it just for the change?

50 paintings ago, small seemed a lot bigger than it is now, I seem to feel more at home larger canvases.

    1. I have been invited to be in a Small Works Gallery, John, with no work larger than 12x16 and a variety of small sizes requested. It's been interesting scaling down my style and trying not to overwork the paintings. My tendency is to paint larger but I am finding these little ones to be a refreshing change of pace..

  7. Love the titles you have given your works! The expressions you have portrayed are superb! I am in awe, considering the tiny size of the format.

    1. There is a kind of theme running through these - color, expression, style of costume - as they are all destined for one gallery. Thank you, Jane!
