Happy Halloween 2014!

Front Door - ready for Trick or Treaters!
Halloween is a holiday that I really look forward to since our move to Reno. In San Diego we considered ourselves lucky if two or three children came by for candy but now we have dozens and dozens of Trick or Treaters and the costumes are always so imaginative and intricate. It's so much fun and my husband and I actually compete to answer the door when the bell rings!

Currently I am working on a new steeplechase painting but its not quite ready to post yet. . My life portrait sessions the last two weeks have been sad and dreary and ended up being wiped off. Soon I will have something new to show you! In the meantime, a Happy  and safe Halloween to all!

    1. Thank you , Michael - its hard to tell from the photo but the witches hat is circled with feathers, and has purple glittery spiders crawling on it. There is orange hair (made from old cheerleader pom poms) and spiders are peppered throughout the hair as well. Several years ago we had a big Halloween party at work and all the girls in my office dressed up as witches of one sort or another. This hat is the one I made for my costume that year. It was great fun and setting up my skeleton with that hat brought back some hilarious memories!

  3. Two years ago because of Hurricane Sandy we didn't have Halloween so I really look forward to opening the doors to the neighborhood children once again...Happy Halloween Susan....and I look forward to seeing your next painting...!

    1. Oh, Hilda, I am so glad that the recovery from that terrible storm has progressed and Halloween can be celebrated once again. I hope you and all the little children in your area had a fabulous time!

  4. I love your spooky display! Unfortunately we don't get any trick or treaters where we live because there is no pavement along the road to our house... It's a shame because I miss that! Enjoy your evening! :0)

    1. It was wonderful, Sandra - so many wonderful costumes! And the bad weather held off until late night when the Trick or Treating was over!

  5. Very nice to see you deck the porch for the trick or treaters. I love Halloween too, but no children live around us. It's sad. I miss it. Nevertheless, every year I pull out my witches garb and take a ride around the block on my broom--don't want to lose the knack. Sorry to hear figurative drawing is a wipe out lately. You're probably percolating and in time you'll see with what. Happy Halloween Susan. Give the kids a cackle from me.

    1. We lived in San Diego for about 12 years and had almost no trick or treaters so its like Halloween is all new to me again! I am like a kid - I love it!
I felt like flying around the block on my broom after all the recent portrait failures. But never give up - I always find the courage to try and try again!

  6. I love seeing the little ones in their costumes, too, especially the very young ones who have not a clue whatsoever what Halloween is about! We don't get any out here in the countryside; instead, hay rides and fireworks are organized in the neighborhood. Hope you and your husband had a great Halloween, seeing the trick-or-treaters! And I am really looking forward to seeing your steeplechase work!

    Gros bisous ☂

    1. Bonjour mon cher ami! I admit to loving Halloween as the children are always so creative with their costumes and I adore seeing them. This year we had several children who sang for their treats - some of them sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" It was so funny and so endearing!
