Winter is on the Way

Three elegant mule deer on our back mountainside this morning - much earlier in the season than last year. Does this mean we will have a snowier winter? I hope so as I love winter and love snow and am well prepared! I know, I know - most people think I am crazy but fall and winter are my favorite times of year! :)

  1. It's minus 5 here - lovely clear blue skies by day frost by night. They forecast plus 11 and rain...well this is England ... you can get all the four seasons in one week here!

Wonderful photographs, Susan, thanks for sharing.

    1. Your weather sounds wild, John - the weathermen are predicting a big winter storm on Friday - SNOW! I knew it would happen early this year!

  2. I'm one of those people...but I do think the snow is beautiful as long as I don't have to drive in it. These are wonderful photographs Susan. You really caught good light. I like the diagonal rhythm of the middle one. Out walking this after noon, I was admiring the brush going up the hills, It's really quite beautiful. I thought about painting in the plein air--step one in that direction.

    1. The deer seem to lke that one particular big green bush - they were having their lunch there last year as well. I wish I could paint en plein air - but after experiencing spiders in my hair and wild winds, I tend to stay safely in studio!

  4. I love the fall and the winter also! I hate to see fall end and I hate to see winter end. I miss the snow terribly when winter is over. I hate when weather forecasters label the weather as "horrible" or "gloomy"! Or "bitter" cold! If it wasn't for cold weather and being out in it what fun would hot soup be? Or warm chocolate chip cookies! Bring on the fall and hurry up the winter!
Our seasons in New England our magnificent. I try to enjoy them all!
Have a great winter Susan and paint on!

    1. Ah - a man of my similar winter/snow passions! I love layering up in warm clothing - wool and corduroy - scarves, hats, mittens - and braving the elements. There is nothing more invigorating that cold crisp air and nothing more comforting than hot chocolate and a warm fire afterwards!

    2. Michael, I forgot to say that I have lived in Connecticut - and adore New England autumns and winters!

    Gros bisous

    1. Martin Alison, I am sorry to hear that snow brings you anxiety. I love the beauty and the quiet stillness of a snowy winter night. I also love shoveling the walkways - go figure!

    1. LOL - many people have told me that, Kathryn. I think my love of winter is not the majority viewpoint. But we have snow predicted later this week - and I can't wait!

  7. I'm a winter person too but these days our winter's seem to be getting wetter. Nothing beats a hard overnight night frost and then a sharp morning sun....makes for a magical sparkly fairy land :) Love the deer...
