Steeplechase Series

This is a 36x24 oil on oil primed linen panel. What a luxury it is to paint on oil primed linen. I love the way the texture of the linen grabs the paint off the brush. The Chisholm Gallery is working on a show for me in February at the Willcox Hotel in Aiken, South Carolina. Its a gorgeous place and I think my steeplechase work would be well displayed there. I hope all the arrangements can be worked out. If it happens, I will be looking for a company to crate and ship the framed pieces - what fun! Here is a link so you can see this glorious place: The Willcox Hotel.  I am very excited about this unique opportunity. Apparently steeplechase season is coming in South Carolina!

  1. I love this one Susan you've captured the excitement and I can almost hear the birch crack as the runners cross it. The Willcox looks absolutely stunning and would make a great backdrop for your work :)

  4. Hi, Elizabeth - I am thrilled that you like the steeplechase painting - living in Scotland, am I correct in assuming that you get to attend these events regularly? I hope the Willcox Hotel show works out - it looks like a place I would love to vacation some day!

  5. Hi Susan yes I'm very lucky in that Ayr Racecourse which is Scotlands premier track is only 12 miles down the road. National Hunt racing as we call it over here has been hit pretty badly by the heavy snow fall we got this winter. The ground has been to hard to race on. I'm hoping the weather will start to get a bit more favourable from now on in :)

  6. Oh yes, you are so lucky to be so close. Some day I will visit and take some photos at the famous Ayr Racecourse! Here is hoping the weather warms up soon - and stays that way!

  7. Wow, I will be lucky enough to view your paintings in person if the Wilcox works out because I moved to Aiken 5 years ago. And yes, because it is a horse town. I love your free expressive brush work style. Love your work! - www.gretchenhashheffner.com
